FDA clears Edwards' expandable pediatric heart valve, the Autus

The FDA has approved Edwards' Autus Size-Adjustable Valve, an artificial pulmonary valve for children born with congenital heart defects. Unlike previous valves, it can be implanted small, starting at 13 millimeters, and later expanded inside the body using a balloon catheter up to 22 millimeters as the child grows, avoiding repeated replacement surgeries.

Study: About 7,000 daily steps may cut heart disease risk

New research suggests that walking roughly 7,000 steps a day, rather than the commonly cited 10,000, is associated with meaningful reductions in cardiovascular disease risk. Researchers found that even modest increases in daily step counts corresponded to measurable health benefits, without requiring hours of walking.

Study finds newer Shingrix shingles vaccine linked to lower heart disease risk

A study of more than 70,000 people published in Nature Medicine found that those who received the current Shingrix shingles vaccine, rather than an older formulation, had a reduced risk of heart disease and heart failure. Researchers compared recipients of the two vaccine types rather than vaccinated versus unvaccinated people, a design meant to avoid the bias seen in earlier studies where healthier people were more likely to get vaccinated.
