Holocene Sediment Flux

1 GoKawiil brief on this topic

Study links medieval Lake Iseo tsunamis to human-driven sediment buildup

Researchers studying Lake Iseo in northern Italy found that centuries of deforestation, farming and grazing since Roman times tripled sediment flow into the lake, rapidly building and steepening the Oglio River delta. This oversteepened delta became prone to underwater collapse during earthquakes, and the study ties two medieval quakes (1117 and 1222 CE) to delta failures that triggered tsunami waves on the lake.
