Researchers propose silicon-photonics chip that 3D prints via light holograms
A research concept describes a millimeter-scale silicon-photonics chip placed at the bottom of a resin-filled well, projecting programmable visible-light holograms upward to selectively cure liquid resin into a solid 3D object. The design would replace mechanical build platforms and laser-scanning systems used in conventional 3D printers, and relies on resin formulated to cure at visible wavelengths rather than standard UV.
