OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Fortune editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell that the company has no plans to go public in 2026, despite having confidentially filed IPO paperwork. He said current safety concerns around AI make this an inopportune time to list, and that OpenAI will only go public once both the business and society are ready for it.
A researcher named Jacob Coxon posted a resignation thread citing AI safety concerns, and the announcement unexpectedly spread far beyond the usual AI safety community. The post amplified earlier claims, including one from Evan Hubinger citing a greater than 10% probability of human extinction from AI, pushing extreme risk estimates into mainstream conversation. A developer detailed how to bypass TikTok's public web endpoints and instead access the private HTTP+JSON API used by its Android app, which returns far more data at higher speed. Pollen Robotics, owned by Hugging Face, has opened pre-orders for Microduck, a 25cm, sub-800g bipedal robot priced at $399. Unlike the stationary Reachy Mini, Microduck is built for mobility, packing 15 motors, a camera, LiDAR, two IMUs and an articulated beak so it can walk, sit, crouch, recover from falls and even roller-skate.
