IEEE held educational workshops in February in Nairobi, at the University of Rwanda, and at Makerere University in Uganda, drawing more than 120 attendees. The sessions, led by IEEE staff and volunteer authors, covered how to prepare, submit, and get papers peer-reviewed, along with guidance on using IEEE Xplore and ensuring research integrity.
The IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu honor society is holding its first Innovating the Future conference on November 6, giving undergraduate and graduate IEEE members a venue to present original research. Participants submitted abstracts by May 1, received mentorship from IEEE volunteers, and those accepted by August 1 will present their work, with proceedings slated for the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
An IEEE member recounts discovering that senior membership, a professional grade above regular membership, is far more accessible than commonly believed. Contrary to popular assumptions, the credential does not require an advanced degree, published research, or wide recognition—only about ten years of engineering experience with five years of significant technical contribution.
