GSoC 2026 project overhauls NAT traversal and IPv6 support in NetBSD's racoon2 IKE daemon

Google Summer of Code participant Artem Belan spent summer 2026 reworking racoon2, NetBSD's IKEv1/IKEv2 key exchange daemon, fixing RFC 7383 message fragmentation, adding NAT-OA payload handling for IKEv1 Quick Mode, improving IPv6 support, and building an automated test suite. The work was merged upstream via pull requests #13 through #39 on the project's gsoc2026 branch between June and September 2026.

Microsoft confirms September Windows 11 updates break Always On VPN

Microsoft has told IT administrators that the September 2026 security updates for Windows 11 versions 26H1, 25H2 and 24H2 can cause Always On VPN connections to fail when automatic protocol selection between IKEv2 and SSTP is enabled. Affected connections may get stuck in a 'Connecting' state or throw a 'port already in use' error on retry. Microsoft has not yet issued a permanent fix but recommends administrators manually set the VPN profile to use only SSTP or only IKEv2 as a workaround.
