Pedro Duque, who became Spain's first astronaut and later led the country's science ministry, has been named an honorary member of IEEE. He now serves as president and chairman of the board of Spanish satellite company HispaSat, and accepted the honor via recorded remarks at an April 24 ceremony in New York he could not attend in person.
NASA has expanded its Commercial Crew Transportation Capability contract with SpaceX, adding three additional crewed Dragon missions to the International Space Station through 2030. The new award is worth up to $946 million and brings SpaceX's total operational flights under the contract to 17, pushing its cumulative earnings from NASA to $5.92 billion. SpaceX shares ISS crew transport duties with Boeing, whose Starliner is set to begin crewed flights in 2027 after an unpiloted test flight.
ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot, currently serving as a flight engineer on the International Space Station during her Epsilon mission, wore a Delta insignia badge modeled on the one worn by actor Anson Mount as Captain Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. She recorded a video tribute marking 60 years since Star Trek's debut, linking the franchise's themes of exploration and cooperation to real-world space science, and both ESA and Paramount shared the clip on Instagram.
