iFixIt disassembled four units of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max and found that the plastic frame behind the display broke on three of them during removal. Since Apple doesn't sell that frame as a standalone part, a cracked one means replacing the entire display module. Separately, YouTuber Zach Nelson's own teardown didn't encounter the same issue and he rated the phone favorably for repairability.
Several Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 buyers say the corners of the phone's inner folding screen flex noticeably more than the rest of the panel when pressed, suggesting the corners lack proper structural support. Android Authority tested a loan unit and confirmed some give in one corner, though less severe than clips circulating online, and noted a teardown showing pads under the corners that appear to be magnets rather than adhesive. Samsung has not yet confirmed whether this is a defect or a normal design trait.
Durability tester JerryRigEverything ran the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra through his usual scratch and bend tests. The cover screen held up similarly to other flagships and the Z Fold 7, but the inner foldable display stopped working after a couple of forceful bends, flickering before going unusable. Dust resistance remained comparable to the previous generation.
YouTuber Zack Nelson (JerryRigEverything) tested Google's Pixel 11 Pro XL and found it resists bending and holds up well to physical stress, though its display still scratches at level six despite Google's claims of improved scratch resistance. His teardown also showed the display and battery can each be removed in just a few minutes using basic tools like a heat gun, suction cup, and pry tool.
YouTuber JerryRigEverything's durability test found the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold cracked along both antenna lines near its hinge, and the outer display detached completely without tools. This marks the fourth straight year a Google foldable has failed at the same structural point, despite Google's claim that this model's build is three times stronger than before.
