Veeam flags boot failures on Software Appliance VMs with certain AMD EPYC chips

Veeam issued an advisory warning that its Linux-based Software Appliance virtual machines for Backup & Replication can intermittently fail to boot on hosts using certain AMD EPYC processors, including the 7262, 7302 and 7F72 models. The failure stems from a jitterentropy health check run during early boot in FIPS mode, which can fail on these chips and trigger a kernel panic, halting startup. The issue affects Software Appliance version 13.1 and later, and can recur after reboots or kernel-updating patches.

GitHub Gist shares script to decode kernel panic data from QR code photos

A developer published a GitHub Gist containing code that decodes kernel panic information embedded in a QR code image, allowing the crash data to be read back from a photo of the code. The gist, posted by user skorotkiewicz, is shareable and embeddable for others to use or adapt.

Fake replacement credit cards mailed to victims in Europe fuel bank fraud

Criminals in Portugal, France and Germany have been mailing counterfeit credit cards and letters warning recipients that their card is expiring, urging them to scan a QR code to "activate" a replacement. Some fake cards even bear the recipient's actual name to increase credibility, according to digital banking advisor Georg Hauer.
