WIRED testers chained 149 of Ikea's $10 Kallsup Bluetooth speakers together to build a wall of sound, successfully syncing wireless playback across nearly all units at a total cost of $1,490. Only one of 150 speakers arrived broken, and the group compared the makeshift wall's output against the $500 LG Xboom Stage 501, a speaker WIRED rates as its top party pick.
A tech reviewer highlighted the LG xboom Stage 501, developed with will.i.am, as their favorite party speaker, praising its deep bass and clarity even at high volumes. The speaker features twin 5.25-inch woofers and two 2.5-inch drivers, delivers 160 watts on battery and 220 watts when plugged in, and offers up to 25 hours of battery life. It also includes app-based EQ, AI karaoke, synchronized lighting, DJ effects, and built-in phone/tablet stands.
LG's collaboration with will.i.am has produced the Stage 501, a 25.8-pound Bluetooth speaker with dual woofers and full-range drivers delivering up to 220 watts when plugged in. Despite its party-oriented design, reviewers found it also performs well at low volumes, and it ships with an app offering EQ controls, karaoke features, and synchronized lighting.
