Ledger unveils phone-style hardware crypto wallet amid backdoor scrutiny

Ledger has announced a new hardware crypto wallet designed to resemble a smartphone. The launch comes as the company faces renewed scrutiny over how it handled earlier reports of backdoored devices, which surfaced months before some crypto wallets were drained of funds.

Humble Choice bundles Psychonauts 2, Like a Dragon and more for $15

Humble's monthly Steam subscription, priced at $14.99, currently includes Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Psychonauts 2, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, and additional titles. Subscribers keep the games permanently even if they cancel after one month, and the service is also offering discounted Nintendo Switch 2 digital games, including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for $53.99.

Writer treks remote valley to document hand-made Tushuri guda cheese

A traveler trekked to a remote shepherds' summer camp to observe traditional production of Tushuri guda, a feta-like cheese aged inside sheepskins and made using hand-milking with wooden pails. At season's end, they joined the shepherds on a roughly 130km (81-mile) descent back down the valley alongside a herd of 300 sheep.

Researchers report being outpaced by AI agents on unpublished math and science problems

Mathematicians including Tristan Buckmaster of New York University say that after working for about a year on a fluid-dynamics puzzle related to the Navier-Stokes problem, OpenAI announced its agents had solved it the day after Buckmaster posted his own progress. Scientists say this is one of at least two recent cases in five weeks where AI companies reached or announced results on questions researchers were already pursuing, prompting some to limit sharing unpublished work with AI tools.

Study: Injected Human AD and CBD Tau Seeds Retain Strain Identity in Mouse Brains

Researchers extracted insoluble tau aggregates from postmortem brains of five Alzheimer's disease patients and six corticobasal degeneration patients, then injected these seeds into the striatum of wild-type mice. Nine to twelve months later, the mice's brains were analyzed using immunohistochemistry and cryo-electron microscopy to assess how the human tau propagated.

Study shows injected human tau fibrils template mouse tau into same structure

Researchers led by Lövestam and colleagues injected fibrils of human tau protein into mice and found that the mice's own tau proteins adopted the same misfolded structure as the injected material. The finding, published in Nature, provides direct structural evidence that tau can act as a template converting normal protein into a toxic form, similar to how infectious prion proteins behave.

Study details TRAM's role in Myddosome signaling independent of Toll-like receptors

Researchers describe laboratory methods used to study TRAM (Ticam2), a signaling adaptor, showing it can promote myddosome formation without direct involvement of Toll-like receptors. The work used immortalized and primary bone-marrow-derived macrophages from wild-type and Ticam2-knockout mice, alongside HEK293T cells, treated with bacterial components such as LPS, LTA and Pam2CSK4 to probe the pathway.

Researchers capture virus-like particle assembly in real time

Scientists led by Asor and colleagues developed a technique to directly observe individual virus-like particles as their protein shells form, publishing the results in Nature. The method allowed them to measure the speed and energy changes of shell assembly, something previously very difficult to track experimentally.

Researchers capture atomic-level view of mi3 virus-like particle self-assembly

Scientists purified and structurally analyzed SC003-mi3, an engineered virus-like particle derived from i3-01 with cysteine mutations and a SpyCatcher domain for attaching other proteins. Using E. coli expression, ammonium sulfate precipitation and dialysis, they produced pure particles suitable for detailed molecular observation of how the nanoparticle assembles itself.

RugOne's Xsnap 7 Pro packs a detachable GoPro-style camera

At IFA 2026, Ulefone sub-brand RugOne showed off the Xsnap 7 Pro, a rugged Android phone with a magnetically attached action camera that pops out of its back. The removable module records up to 2.8K at 30fps or 1440p at 50fps, holds 64GB of storage, is waterproof to 5 meters, and connects to the phone over Wi-Fi 6 from as far as 50 meters away.
