Apple has announced new MacBook Pro laptops featuring a touchscreen display for the first time, built around what it calls a 'ProLED XDR' tandem OLED panel with up to 2,000 nits brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. The 14- and 16-inch models run on new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, support up to 128GB of unified memory, and are now available for preorder starting at $2,899.
Apple's newly announced MacBook Pro with OLED display and touchscreen starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch model, but fully upgraded configurations reach $14,249 and $14,549 respectively. The top prices include an M5 Max chip, nano-texture glass, 128GB of memory, and 16TB of storage.
Apple released a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip, keeping the same design and most features as the M5 model. The M6 adds a 12-core CPU and GPU, improved Neural Engine, and up to 170GB/s memory bandwidth, plus Apple's N1 wireless chip bringing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support. Apple cites gains including up to 30 percent faster graphics and 25 percent faster AI workloads compared to the M5.
The 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max chip, 36GB of RAM and 2TB of storage has dropped to $3,499, a 20 percent discount and $400 less than it cost just days earlier. Retailers say this is $150 below any previous sale price for this configuration, even after Apple raised prices across the lineup in June.
Apple is expected to unveil a redesigned MacBook Pro at an October 28 event, featuring a new industrial design, OLED touchscreen display, Dynamic Island and no notch. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the laptop will keep the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips released earlier this year rather than offer a performance upgrade, as Apple reportedly skipped M6 chips to focus on M7 Pro and Max for 2027.
A review of the ASUS ProArt P16 laptop equipped with NVIDIA's RTX Spark chip and 128GB of RAM found strong GPU, NPU and AI benchmark performance, outperforming a MacBook Pro with M5 Max in Geekbench 6 GPU tests and UL Procyon AI benchmarks. However, the system scored lower than a Snapdragon X2 Elite-powered ASUS A16 in PCMark 10 and single-threaded CPU tests. The laptop reportedly ran large local AI models like Qwen3.8 27B alongside demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077 without performance slowdowns.
