OKA scales Wikipedia translation to 10,000 articles using AI-plus-human editing

John Zimmerman, founder of the Swiss non-profit OKA, says his organisation has become Wikipedia's largest contributor of translated articles, publishing over 10,000 pieces mainly in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The process pairs AI-generated drafts with human translators who check every sentence, a workflow Zimmerman says would have cost millions using traditional human-only translation. Legal translator Ariella BaltiƩ separately described reviewing AI-translated court documents that contained errors, including mistranslating a French legal term and garbling a woman's marital status.
