ISS's Canadarm2 robotic arm stuck after routine walk-off maneuver

NASA astronauts on the International Space Station recently performed a standard walk-off procedure with the Canadarm2 robotic arm, after which the arm and its mobile transporter became unable to move. As of Sunday evening, teams were still investigating whether the fault lies in software or hardware, and NASA had not provided further comment by Monday morning.

ISS Canadarm2 robotic arm stops moving after routine relocation maneuver

NASA sources say the International Space Station's Canadarm2 robotic arm and its mobile transporter became stuck after a standard 'walk-off' repositioning move. Engineers are investigating whether the failure stems from a software or data glitch or an actual hardware fault in the arm or transporter. NASA had not publicly commented on the issue as of Monday morning.

IEEE Names Canadarm Its 300th Technology Milestone

IEEE has designated the Canadarm, the robotic arm developed by Spar Aerospace and Canada's National Research Council for NASA's space shuttle program, as its 300th Milestone. The device, first flown on Columbia in 1981, helped astronauts move payloads, conduct repairs and inspect shuttles over three decades of service on five orbiters and the International Space Station. The honor was announced at a ceremony held at MDA Space's headquarters, with IEEE Toronto Section having sponsored the nomination.
