Cryo-EM reveals methanogen nitrogenase bound to regulatory PII protein

Researchers used cryo-electron microscopy to resolve the structure of a supercomplex formed between nitrogenase and a PII signal transduction protein in a methanogen archaeon. The structure captures how PII, a widely conserved regulator of nitrogen metabolism, physically associates with the nitrogen-fixing enzyme, offering a molecular view of this interaction not previously visualized at this resolution.

Study identifies enzyme structure clarifying archaeal cell wall composition

Researchers characterized a hydrolase enzyme from a methanogen archaeon and used it to reveal structural details of archaeal peptidoglycan-like cell wall material, known as pseudopeptidoglycan. The work, conducted across several European research institutions including the Institut Pasteur, was supported by multiple national and European science funding bodies.
