Warhound raises $200M to genetically engineer and clone military working dogs

Warhound, backed by Colossal Biosciences' Ben Lamm and Anduril's Palmer Luckey, has raised $200 million to genetically edit and clone top-performing military, police and first-responder dogs, mostly Belgian Malinois. Lamm says the startup has begun editing genes from donor dog cell samples, initially targeting breed-specific health issues like hip dysplasia and cancer, with plans to later enhance traits like speed and smell. Anduril will supply protective gear such as vests and goggles rather than cybernetic enhancements, while Colossal holds equity and Lamm sits on Warhound's board.

New startup Warhound to gene-edit military dogs and add Anduril tech, raises $200M

Warhound, a new Texas defense startup founded by Colossal Biosciences' Ben Lamm with input from Anduril's Palmer Luckey, has raised $200 million to develop genetically modified working dogs for military and police use. The company plans to use Colossal's gene-editing and cloning expertise to breed healthier, higher-performing dogs, then fit them with Anduril hardware such as eye and ear protection and EagleEye sensor technology. Luckey helped conceive the company but holds no equity or ongoing role in it, according to Bloomberg.
