GMKtec has released the Evo-X3, a redesigned mini PC built around AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, now shipping with 128GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory as standard. The unit adopts an almost entirely metal CNC-machined chassis in place of its predecessor's plastic-and-aluminum build. Tom's Hardware tested a 128GB/2TB configuration priced at $3,799.99, roughly double what the earlier Evo-X2 cost six months prior.
A blogger added four Intel I226-V 2.5GbE network cards to a GMKtec NucBox G9 mini PC being used as a home router, expanding its networking capability beyond the stock configuration. The modification includes a 3D-printed enclosure addition, with design files released so others can replicate the upgrade themselves.
Mini PCs use laptop-grade components that are largely non-upgradable, with CPUs and GPUs typically soldered directly to the motherboard. Even RAM and storage, when replaceable, use compact SO-DIMM and M.2 formats, and many budget models solder these too, eliminating upgrade paths entirely. Limited internal space also restricts I/O and expansion options like extra ports or drive bays.
