Study details GRP75-driven SIMPA structures in mitochondrial quality control

Researchers used fluorescence imaging in U-2OS and HeLa cells to show that stress-induced mitochondrial structures called SIMPA form under multiple conditions, including hydrogen peroxide exposure, heat shock, photoactivation of an AIE dye, MitoTracker Red staining, and inhibition of the mitochondrial respiratory chain with agents like Rotenone and Antimycin A. The experiments showed SIMPA formation scales with stress dose, with larger and more numerous aggregates appearing as stimulus intensity increased across each model tested.
