Researchers published findings in Proceedings of the Royal Society B describing how New Zealand's extinct Haast's eagle, a 15-kilogram raptor with a three-metre wingspan, hunted the massive flightless moa. The international team found the eagle used powerful talons to knock prey over, finished it off with its beak, and then fed on the carcass's insides in a manner similar to a vulture, since it couldn't carry its enormous kill.
