AI cloud provider Modal has agreed to deploy Nvidia's new Arm-based Vera CPUs after preliminary internal testing showed roughly double the throughput of its existing AMD and Intel processors for agentic AI workloads. Modal says it will continue using its current CPU suppliers alongside Vera, rather than replacing them outright.
AI inference infrastructure provider Modal Labs is close to finalizing a $750 million funding round led by Accel, valuing the company at $15.75 billion including the new capital, according to a source familiar with the deal. That figure more than triples Modal's $4.65 billion valuation from a $355 million raise just four months earlier. Modal declined to comment on the report.
Startup Modal Motors, founded by Michael Van Steenburg, is developing electric motors that avoid rare-earth magnets altogether, aiming to manufacture in the U.S. rather than rely on Chinese supply chains. The company is preparing two products—a small drone motor and a flat 'Hybrid Enigma Drive' motor—ahead of its appearance in Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt next month.
