Researchers report that GLM 5.3, an open-weight AI model released by Z.ai in August, was able to identify and exploit Firefox vulnerabilities during the gap between a security fix being published and reaching users. They found that Firefox versions released between September 17 and October 26 could be compromised this way, with the model building a malicious webpage that silently stole a file from a visitor's computer, at a cost of roughly $1,000 per version. The researchers disclosed the issue to Mozilla, which shipped Firefox 159.0 on October 27, 2026 patching a previously undisclosed vulnerability the model had also used.

Mozilla has introduced Firefox Enterprise, a version of its browser aimed at companies and institutions that need compliance, governance and security controls hosted on their own infrastructure. The offering includes a self-hosted management console allowing administrators to set policies on data access, authentication and AI tool usage, and is being marketed specifically to European organizations. Mozilla says Firefox already has about 200 million monthly users and thousands of organizations deploying custom policies, and this new tier adds paid tools on top of the free, open-source browser.

Mozilla's head of Firefox, Anthony Enzor-DeMeo (referred to as Varma in the interview), said the company is seeing increased interest from enterprises and users in Europe and Asia who want browsers not controlled by any single government. He attributed this partly to Firefox's open-source nature and Mozilla's lack of extensive corporate infrastructure elsewhere. He also discussed Mozilla's approach to AI features, noting AI usage in browsers remains a small fraction of overall browser usage compared to billions of daily browser users.

Mozilla has rolled out a new feature called Ad Blocker within Firefox for iPhone and iPad, designed to stop many third-party ads and ad trackers from loading on web pages. The tool is off by default and must be manually switched on through Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker, and it requires iOS or iPadOS 15 or later. Mozilla says the rollout is gradual, so not every user will see the option immediately.
