Researchers reverse chronic pain in mice by disrupting nerve-cell scaffold proteins

Scientists found that breaking down a structural scaffold around nerve cells, known as the perineuronal net, reduced signs of chronic pain in mice. The study targeted extracellular matrix components surrounding pain-processing neurons, and enzymatic disruption of this scaffold eased pain-related behavior in the animals.
