Nissan's 2027 Rogue Hybrid uses series e-Power system with no plug

Nissan is launching a redesigned Rogue SUV with an updated version of its e-Power hybrid system, which Ars Technica tested in February. Unlike most hybrids, the e-Power system never connects its 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine directly to the wheels; instead the engine acts purely as a generator, charging a battery that powers an electric motor, making the car drive like an EV without a charging plug. Nissan says the engine runs at up to 42 percent thermal efficiency by being optimized solely for generating electricity rather than driving the wheels.
