Study finds Chernobyl 'hot particles' remain unexpectedly stable after 40 years

Researchers from Leibniz University Hannover and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf analyzed six radioactive fragments ejected during the 1986 Chernobyl reactor explosion. The particles, some fused with zirconium or formed from burning graphite moderator material, proved more physically and chemically stable than previously assumed, according to the team's findings published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials.

Fluxnium raises $7M to extract uranium from seawater for nuclear fuel

Fluxnium, a stealth clean-tech startup led by repeat founder Jeff Green, says it has developed technology to economically extract uranium from ocean water, potentially rivaling traditional uranium mines in cost. The company closed a $7 million seed round led by Congruent Ventures, with backing from Active Impact Investments and Constellation Energy, and builds on extraction methods originally developed at U.S. Department of Energy national labs.
