RAM and SSD prices surge as demand for AI data centers squeezes supply

Average consumer memory prices have risen sharply since last September, with 2TB NVMe SSDs up 137%, 32GB DDR5 kits up 363%, and some 64GB DDR5-6000 kits up nearly 500%. High-capacity RAM like 128GB and 512GB ECC kits has become scarce or drastically more expensive, and a 4TB Samsung SSD that cost $390 in 2024 now runs $1,100. IDC data cited alongside these figures shows smartphone average selling prices are also expected to climb 27.6% in 2026 amid falling shipments, while Apple has raised prices across much of its product line.

Wokyis launches G5/G7 retro docks with flip-up display and Thunderbolt 5 for Mac

Wokyis has released the G5 and G7, retro-styled docking stations designed for the Mac mini and Mac Studio respectively, styled after the original 1984 Macintosh. The docks pack a 7-inch flip-up display, nine remappable physical controls, an NVMe SSD enclosure supporting up to 8TB, and a mix of high-speed ports including Thunderbolt 5 on the 80Gbps configuration. Both 10Gbps and 80Gbps versions are available, with card readers, USB-A/C ports, HDMI, DisplayPort and a headphone jack rounding out the connectivity.
