Element3, a Texas startup, is processing the enormous volumes of wastewater produced during oil drilling in the Permian Basin to recover minerals used in EV batteries. The region's oil wells generate roughly 6 million barrels of crude a day alongside large quantities of mineral-laden water, which the company is treating as a resource rather than waste.
