Capcom says it will keep reactivating older IPs after Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold over a million copies on launch day, marking the first mainline Onimusha title since 2006. The publisher noted in a press release that alongside new major releases, it intends to revisit franchises that haven't seen new entries in years, pointing to efforts already underway with Okami and Mega Man.
Tom's Hardware ran Capcom's new RE Engine title Onimusha: Way of the Sword through its built-in benchmark across 31 CPUs, from Intel's newly released Core Ultra 7 270K Plus down to AMD's decade-old Ryzen 7 2700X. AMD's X3D chips outperformed flagship processors by roughly 10%, while the 270K Plus underperformed compared to Intel's older Raptor Lake Refresh parts, and AMD's newer 12-core Ryzen 9 chips also lagged unexpectedly.
Capcom's long-dormant Onimusha franchise returns after nearly two decades with Way of the Sword, casting players as a young, brash version of swordsman Miyamoto Musashi who is killed and resurrected by the series' signature Oni gauntlet to fight a demon invasion. The game blends its classic mythic samurai setting with precision-timed, parry-based combat reminiscent of modern Soulslike titles like Elden Ring.
