Package Manager

2 GoKawiil briefs on this topic

Swift 6.4 ships with unified builds, stable Subprocess API, and faster WebAssembly

Apple's Swift language team has released Swift 6.4, which makes Swift Build the default engine in Swift Package Manager so projects compile identically on Linux, macOS, and Windows. The update also finalizes the Subprocess API at version 1.0 for cross-platform process management, expands C++ and Java interoperability, and speeds up WebAssembly execution via JavaScriptKit by up to 40 times.

Git worktree and submodule interaction still forces manual --force after 11 years

A developer examining Git's command-line safety flags found that removing or moving a git worktree containing submodules requires the --force flag, a restriction dating back to git worktree's 2015 introduction. The analysis traces how git worktree add had to be patched to ignore submodule.recurse to avoid corrupting empty submodule paths, and argues that git submodules function as a de facto package manager, with the gitlink SHA acting as a lockfile entry and .gitmodules as the manifest.
