New speleothem synthesis maps monsoon shifts across both hemispheres over 450,000 years

A compilation of cave mineral records spanning Asia, South America and Africa traces how summer monsoon systems in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres have shifted in tandem over the last 450,000 years. The records show these interhemispheric monsoon systems responding to shared climate forcings, including glacial cycles and abrupt cooling events like Heinrich stadials.

Study finds no statistical link between Sumerian King List reigns and climate history

A quantitative analysis tested whether the eight antediluvian reign lengths in the Sumerian King List, which sum to 241,200 years, correspond to actual Quaternary climate or geological events when rescaled and anchored near 11,600 years ago. Comparing the sequence against a catalog of paleoclimate events using a defined null model, the researcher found the alignment was not statistically significant.
