Apple's M6 chip brings dual Neural Engines and three-tier CPU cores to base MacBook Pro

Apple has officially unveiled the M6 chip ahead of a new 14-inch MacBook Pro expected this fall, keeping the same industrial design as current models. The chip adds a dual 16-core Neural Engine for faster on-device AI, a 12-core CPU with super, performance and efficiency cores alongside a 12-core GPU, and is built on a new 2nm manufacturing process for greater power efficiency.

Apple's base M6 chip gains 'super cores' once reserved for Pro and Max models

Apple introduced the M6 chip, launching first in a new Mac mini, alongside the M5 Ultra. The M6 marks the first base-tier Apple silicon chip built on a 2-nanometer process and the first to combine three core types—two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores—a mix previously limited to the pricier M5 Pro and M5 Max.
