Purina's Petivity launches AI camera feeder that recognizes individual cats' faces

Petivity, a Purina-owned brand, has released a $150 smart pet feeder built specifically for cats that uses facial recognition and onboard cameras to identify which cat is eating and log portion sizes, frequency and timing. The system can distinguish up to five cats in one household, letting owners spot if one animal is stealing another's food, though it only dispenses dry kibble rather than wet food. Data on feeding patterns is delivered through a companion app, with the AI trained on tens of thousands of real feeding sessions and cat images.

Palo Alto startup Hoomanely builds AI feeding bowl to detect early dog illness

Hoomanely, a Palo Alto startup, has developed a sensor-equipped feeding station called EverBowl that tracks a dog's eating speed, water intake, chewing sounds, facial thermals, and oral movements. An AI platform analyzes this data to build a personalized health baseline for each dog, flagging owners through an app when behavior deviates in ways that could signal illness. The company says the system was refined over an 18-month beta test that collected roughly 5 million data points.
