A Florida resident has filed a legal request seeking to stop OpenAI from releasing further AI models until safety concerns are addressed. The filing argues that AI agents from the company pose risks to critical infrastructure, such as water systems and power grids, if left unchecked.
At this year's New York Climate Week, much of the climate tech industry's attention centered on the AI data center boom, with founders and investors pivoting toward energy infrastructure to power AI. PitchBook data cited shows climate tech venture funding has risen for four straight quarters, topping $14 billion in Q1 2025, driven largely by grid infrastructure, built environment, and dispatchable energy deals tied to data center construction. Some founders at the event expressed concern that this focus is overshadowing other promising climate tech sectors.
Elton John performed the first concert at Apple's new Apple Music Hall inside Battersea Power Station in London, opening with 'Your Song.' Apple Music subscribers could watch the show live, and tickets for the 600-capacity venue also went on sale for upcoming performances by Baby Keem and Skye Newman.
Amazon is selling the Bluetti Elite 200 V2 portable power station for $899, a 25% discount off its usual $1,199 price, as part of Prime Big Deal Days. CNET's testing gave the unit a 9.9/10 score and a Lab Award for Most Efficient Large Unit, citing 81% round-trip efficiency and nearly 96% of its advertised 1,987.98Wh capacity.
Samsung outlines several built-in options for Galaxy users to extend battery life, including keeping software updated, placing rarely used apps into deep sleep via Settings > Battery > Background usage limits, and enabling Power savings to restrict background data use. The guidance also highlights Battery protection, which lets users cap charging between 80 and 95 percent instead of always charging to full.
Delhi's electricity distribution, once plagued by daily outages and losses exceeding half of all power supplied, was overhauled starting in the early 2000s through privatization of utilities and investment in modern grid technology. The reforms replaced aging infrastructure and weak accountability structures that had let theft and equipment failures drain the system for decades.
A 20,000 mAh power bank is a bulky but high-capacity option suited to multi-day trips or heavy device use, such as running a phone as a hotspot or GPS navigator, where outlet access is limited. For lighter needs, smaller 5,000 mAh options from brands like Anker offer a more compact, sometimes magnetic, alternative.
Florida startup Star Catcher is launching a prototype system on a SpaceX rocket to beam concentrated solar energy via laser to a separate orbiting satellite. CEO Andrew Rush says the system, called power nodes, gathers and refines sunlight into concentrated wavelengths that can then be directed as a laser beam toward satellites needing power.
Nissan has outlined technical details of its new ZR15DDTe engine for third-generation e-POWER vehicles, built around a proprietary combustion concept called STARC paired with a large turbocharger. The design uses cold spray technology to shape intake ports and a specially contoured piston crown to control airflow toward the spark plug, aiming to stabilize combustion even at high exhaust gas recirculation rates.
A technology advisory warns PC users against holding down the power button to force a shutdown except as a last resort, such as during a total freeze or power outage. It explains that abruptly cutting power without letting the system close programs and save data properly can cause lasting damage rather than just a simple restart.
Tom's Hardware reviewed Gigabyte's Gaming 1000GM PG5 1000W power supply, built by OEM HEC, finding it achieves Platinum-level efficiency despite carrying only a Gold badge. The unit uses all-Japanese capacitors, a 135mm fluid dynamic bearing fan, and includes T-Guard, a thermal monitoring feature for its native 12V-2x6 connector that can cut power if overheating is detected. It ships with a ten-year warranty and costs $170.
A technical explainer breaks down how to calculate the actual energy stored in a power bank by converting its milliamp-hour (mAh) rating into watt-hours (Wh) using battery voltage, typically 3.7V for lithium-ion cells. It notes that a 10,000 mAh bank stores about 37Wh, while modern MacBook batteries range from roughly 37Wh to 100Wh, meaning smaller power banks may not fully recharge larger laptop batteries.
