Router QoS and SQM features explained for home network traffic prioritization

Quality of Service (QoS) is a router setting that prioritizes certain types of internet traffic, such as video calls and online gaming, over less time-sensitive data like email. A more advanced version, Smart Queue Management (SQM), uses traffic shaping and scheduling to reduce lag caused by congested data queues, a problem known as bufferbloat. SQM requires more processing power, so it's typically found on high-performance gaming routers or Eero mesh systems rather than standard models.

CISA to end weekly vulnerability bulletins, pushes risk-based approach instead

CISA announced it will stop publishing its weekly vulnerability summary bulletins starting Sept. 28, directing organizations instead to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, security advisories, and vendor alerts. The agency says the change reflects its push for risk-based vulnerability prioritization rather than relying on severity scores alone, amid a surge in disclosed vulnerabilities partly driven by AI-assisted flaw hunting.
