Hosts Carolina Hidalgo and Marcus Parks have relaunched their music history podcast No Dogs in Space with a fourth season called Punk 2.0, kicking off with a multi-part look at the New York Dolls. The hiatus stretched over two years, partly because the pair abandoned an earlier planned season on the Washington DC punk scene after research into Bad Brains and the scope of the project became untenable.
Customer experience consultant Adrian Swinscoe and other business advisers are drawing on punk subculture's anti-establishment, do-it-yourself values as a corrective to corporate practices they see as overly metric-driven and impersonal. Swinscoe reportedly grew frustrated that his field had drifted toward benchmarks and abstract data at the expense of genuine customer connection, prompting him to look to punk's ethos for inspiration.
The Verge's weekend editor reflects on rediscovering the Professor Murder Rides the Subway EP while re-ripping old CDs, calling it a standout artifact of the mid-2000s NYC dance punk scene. The 16-minute release is described as built on synth blasts, chanted vocals and syncopated percussion layered over a disco-stomp foundation, distinguishing the band from contemporaries like LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture.
