Quake rewritten in safe Rust, now runs directly in web browsers

A developer has ported the original Quake engine to Rust, using memory-safe code rather than the game's original C codebase, and compiled it to run in a web browser. The port supports keyboard and mouse controls as well as gamepads, including original id Software joystick configurations, with adjustable mouse sensitivity to account for platform differences like macOS.

Modder runs PlayStation 5 emulator on Xbox Series X

YouTube modder Devran Cosmo Uenal demonstrated an experimental Xbox port of KytyPS5, an open-source PlayStation 5 emulator, playing titles like Quake 2, Gex Trilogy, Hellboy Web of Wyrd and Marvel Cosmic Invasion on a Series X. He also showed the PS5 interface running with an option to launch the PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto 5, though he says compatibility remains limited.

Wine-NX homebrew brings Windows PC games like NFS Underground 2 to Switch

A homebrew project called Wine-NX ports Wine 11 to the Switch's Horizon OS, letting it run x86 Windows games via Box64's ARM64 translation and Mesa's nouveau graphics driver. Demonstrations show Need for Speed Underground 2 playing at 20-45fps, OpenTTD hitting 60fps, Quake III Arena running around 37fps at 720p, and WarCraft III partially functional with menus and cutscenes working.
