Google is broadening its cross-platform file-sharing feature that lets Quick Share work with Apple's AirDrop, with reports now surfacing from Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 owners seeing enabling notifications. This follows an earlier sighting of the feature reaching the Pixel Tablet, suggesting Google is rolling the capability out beyond the Pixel 8a-and-newer devices that first got it last fall.
A screenshot spotted by Joe Lenington on X shows the Google Pixel Tablet running Android 17 now displays Quick Share's Apple-device file-sharing interface, previously limited to select smartphones. Google's official FAQ page hasn't been updated to list the tablet, but fine print confirms the feature covers tablets as well as phones.
Developer unrealJune has released Kindshare, an open-source tool that lets jailbroken Kindle devices receive files via Google's Quick Share from Android phones. The setup requires a Kindle capable of being jailbroken, installation of KOReader, and manual configuration through GitHub instructions, with full compatibility confirmed only on a Kindle Voyage running firmware 5.13.6. The tool currently only supports receiving files, not sending them from the Kindle.
