Google's November 2026 System Services release notes confirm a feature that automatically backs up photos and videos from Android phones to Windows PCs using Quick Share, shipping with Google Play services v26.43. The update is rolling out gradually, and earlier teardowns indicated Samsung phones and PCs would initially be excluded from support.
Google announced at its Android Dev Summit that it will release a Quick Share SDK in the first half of 2027, letting developers embed peer-to-peer file sharing and Tap to Share directly within their Android and iOS apps. The SDK would let users share files through a bottom-sheet interface inside an app rather than opening the full-screen Quick Share experience via the system share sheet.
Google's support documentation confirms that any verified phone number on an Android device is now automatically linked to every Google account signed into that device, including accounts added later or numbers from new SIM cards. The company and carriers periodically re-verify these numbers, a process that can incur carrier charges, and the linkage can only be adjusted from the phone itself. Verification also enables features like phone number sign-in, lost device location, emergency services, Quick Share, and a newer account-recovery tool launched in October 2025.
Samsung has enabled Quick Share compatibility with Apple's AirDrop on the Galaxy S25 FE, according to tipster Tarun Vats. The feature arrived through the stable One UI 9.0 update, letting S25 FE owners send files directly to and from iPhones.
Google’s new Googlebooks lineup features a Quick Access tool that enables users to browse, open, and transfer files between their Android phones and the device itself. The feature supports drag-and-drop for files under 200MB and requires both devices to run Android 17. Additionally, Files AI will provide instant summaries of folder names within Googlebooks.
Google is broadening its cross-platform file-sharing feature that lets Quick Share work with Apple's AirDrop, with reports now surfacing from Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 owners seeing enabling notifications. This follows an earlier sighting of the feature reaching the Pixel Tablet, suggesting Google is rolling the capability out beyond the Pixel 8a-and-newer devices that first got it last fall.
A screenshot spotted by Joe Lenington on X shows the Google Pixel Tablet running Android 17 now displays Quick Share's Apple-device file-sharing interface, previously limited to select smartphones. Google's official FAQ page hasn't been updated to list the tablet, but fine print confirms the feature covers tablets as well as phones.
Developer unrealJune has released Kindshare, an open-source tool that lets jailbroken Kindle devices receive files via Google's Quick Share from Android phones. The setup requires a Kindle capable of being jailbroken, installation of KOReader, and manual configuration through GitHub instructions, with full compatibility confirmed only on a Kindle Voyage running firmware 5.13.6. The tool currently only supports receiving files, not sending them from the Kindle.
