AP: Congressional control may take days to determine after Election Day

The Associated Press says it will call races in all 435 House seats and 35 Senate contests, but final control of each chamber may not be known for days. House control requires 218 seats, with Republicans currently holding 219 of 435 seats; Senate control requires 51 Democratic seats or 50 Republican seats due to Vice President JD Vance's tiebreaking vote, with Republicans currently holding a 53-47 edge. The AP notes that in 2022 it took four days to call the Senate and eight days to call the House, citing slow-counting states like California and ranked-choice voting states like Alaska and Maine as contributing factors.
