Robot vacuums lack arms and can't move objects out of their path, leaving them stuck on cables, socks, or lightweight rugs. While pricier models use infrared, LiDAR, or AI cameras to navigate around obstacles more intelligently than basic bump-sensor units, most still can't physically clear a room the way a human cleaner can.
At IFA Berlin 2026, companies like Anker (Eufy Omni E35) and Ecovacs (Deebot X12S Omnicyclone) showcased robot vacuums specifically certified to remove dust mites and allergens, with third-party testing backing their claims. Overall, the show felt quieter than previous years, with fewer wild concept reveals and more focus on refining existing product lines like the Saros Rover and Dreame Cyber X.
At IFA, Ecovacs unveiled the Deebot X12S OmniCyclone, an update to its X12 robot vacuum that adds dust mite removal capability while retaining the water jet stain-loosening feature from its predecessor. In a live demonstration, the reporter observed the stain-removal spray fail to actually hit its intended target, raising questions about that feature's reliability, though independent testing by SGS in Singapore found the device removed over 97% of dust mite allergens and 95% of dust mites from carpet.
Narwal unveiled a new robot vacuum and mop lineup at IFA Berlin 2026, extending its FlowWash mopping system from the flagship Flow series down to more affordable models like the Freo 20 and Freo 20 Edge. FlowWash uses a flat microfiber roller, 16 angled hot-water nozzles, and a scraper to continuously clean the mop while removing dried stains, delivering 12 newtons of downward pressure. The Freo 20 also adds 31,000 pascals of suction, dual RGB cameras, and AI recognition of over 300 household objects.
