GoKawiilRome opens largest known Roman wall mosaic beneath Baths of Trajan
A massive wall mosaic and fresco discovered in the 1990s beneath Rome's Baths of Trajan have opened to public viewing for the first time. The mosaic, dubbed the 'Muse and the Philosopher,' spans 16 meters and rises 10 meters high, while the adjoining 'Painted City' fresco depicts a fortified port town seen from above. Officials say both works likely predate the baths themselves, originating in the Neronian or Flavian era of the first century.
