GoKawiilMars Meteorite Found in Mali Reveals Billion-Year-Old Water Traces
Scientists analyzing a nearly two-pound meteorite discovered in Mali in 2022, now largely housed at a Maine museum, have determined it originated from Mars and contains zircon crystals dating back 4.1 billion years. A paper published in Science, led by NASA JPL's Yang Liu, describes the rock as showing evidence of magma cooling followed by alteration from subsurface water, making it one of only three known Mars meteorites this old.
