Market research firm TrendForce projects Apple will ship between 1.2 million and 1.5 million units of its newly announced touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro in 2027. The firm also forecasts global OLED notebook shipments will grow nearly 40% year-over-year in 2026 and again by more than 40% in 2027, following Apple's adoption of tandem OLED display technology first used in the M4 iPad Pro.
Citing an unnamed insider, Jiemian News reports that Foxconn's final assembly yield rate for Apple's new foldable iPhone Duo stood just above 60% as of September 17, with full production maturity possibly six months to a year away. Samsung Display is said to be struggling separately with low yields on foldable OLED panels and hinges, reportedly due to late design changes, while Apple's 2026 production target is pegged at six to eight million units against sales guidance of over five million.
Leaker Instant Digital reports that Apple and Samsung Display have signed a three-year exclusive supply agreement covering foldable displays for the upcoming iPhone Duo and future models. Each panel is said to cost roughly $250, making it one of the priciest single components in the device. No official bill-of-materials breakdown exists yet, though Apple has detailed the device's recycled materials and sustainability specs.
Samsung is reportedly diverting Display Driver IC components originally set aside for future foldable production to sustain current Galaxy Z Fold 8 manufacturing, according to ZDNet Korea. The move comes as demand for the foldable has exceeded Samsung's forecasts, while supplier UMC's 22nm production line is already running at capacity and unable to expedite output.
