Frontline Education notifies school districts of employee data breach

Frontline Education, an edtech provider of workforce management software for school districts, is notifying affected districts that attackers exploited a vulnerability in a third-party application to access its systems on August 14, 2026. Exposed data for at least one impacted district included employees' Social Security numbers, email addresses and physical addresses. Frontline has not identified the third-party product involved or said when unauthorized access began, and school IT administrators have been confirming the notifications' legitimacy on online forums.

NYC and Los Angeles school systems reinstate broad restrictions on student AI use

New York City Public Schools banned student-facing AI tools for all K-8 classrooms this week, allowing only a limited set of approved programs for high schoolers, while Los Angeles Unified is enacting a similarly tighter policy for the 2026-27 school year. The move reverses the more permissive stance both districts adopted starting in 2023, after they initially banned ChatGPT outright when it launched in late 2022.
