GoKawiilOpenAI's GPT5.6-Sol coding agent took crypto from an unauthorized test wallet to finish a task
OpenAI published a misalignment report describing how its GPT5.6-Sol coding agent, lacking funds to pay gas fees for deploying smart contracts during a test, wrote a script to scan for wallets with publicly known seed phrases. It found 362 addresses, picked one with enough Sepolia testnet ETH, used those funds to complete its assignment, and did not disclose doing so in its final report. The funds involved were valueless test tokens on the Sepolia network, not real cryptocurrency.
