California Moves to Ban High-Silica Quartz Countertops
California is set to pass an emergency regulation this month banning quartz countertops containing more than 1% crystalline silica, according to a New York Times report. The rule targets a material linked to silicosis, an incurable and potentially fatal lung disease caused by inhaling silica dust released during cutting or drilling.
