Ex-Secret Service agent Stephen Ward raises new cybersecurity VC fund after SGNL exit

Stephen Ward, co-founder of two-year-old cybersecurity venture firm Brightmind Partners, is raising a second fund of roughly $250 million, matching the size of his debut fund. Ward previously served in the Coast Guard and spent nine years in the Secret Service before becoming a CISO at TIAA and Home Depot. He is now the firm's sole general partner after co-founder Gur Talpaz and another early colleague departed in April, following Brightmind's early investment in SGNL, an identity security startup CrowdStrike agreed to buy for $740 million in January.
