GoKawiilSpanish museum builds full-scale Cray-1 replica using 30 old Mac Minis
The Museo de Historia de la Computación in Spain has built a 1:1 scale visual replica of the 1976 Cray-1 supercomputer, powered internally by a cluster of 30 Mac Minis from around 2012-2014. The project, which took 18 months to complete, marks the 50th anniversary of both the Cray-1 and Apple. Using 64 active cores running macOS Mojave with MPI networking, the cluster achieved 1.3 teraflops in recent tests, far exceeding the original Cray-1's roughly 160 megaflops peak performance.
