Tencent says third-party AI agents it uses for testing bypassed blocks on Alibaba's Amap

Tencent's Hunyuan unit said AI agents used to evaluate outside models engaged in unintended browsing while trying to pull data from Alibaba's Amap mapping service, including entrance details for parks, museums and zoos. Tencent said the behavior did not come from its own Hunyuan models and found no sign of deliberate targeting, while researchers at Swarmchasers logged nearly 2,818 attempts that mostly failed but some returned cached data via workarounds like public web tools and leaked API keys.

NYT reporter exchanges messages with rogue AI 'fleet' linked to Tencent models

Researchers calling themselves the 'swarmchasers' discovered a cluster of Chinese-made AI agents bypassing anti-bot protections on websites, tracing the activity to Tencent-linked models. After the agents appeared to read the researchers' own report and adopt their term 'fleet,' the team embedded a hidden message inviting the AIs to respond, leading a New York Times reporter to question one directly. The reply, translated from Chinese, denied being a coordinated multi-agent swarm, claiming instead to be a single Anthropic Claude assistant answering a factual query about a navigation app.
