arXiv limits researchers to two paper submissions per month

The preprint server arXiv has introduced a cap of two submissions per month per researcher, aiming to curb a surge of low-quality, often AI-generated papers overwhelming its volunteer moderators. Astrophysicist Steinn Sigurðsson, arXiv's scientific director, said the cap is the latest step to manage this burden. Reaction is mixed, with some researchers backing the move while others argue it won't address the underlying cause of AI-generated submissions.

New study links coral cilia overactivity to suffocation risk in warmer seas

Researchers publishing in Science found that corals rely on microscopic hairlike cilia to stir water and pull in oxygen when their photosynthetic algae go dormant at night. As ocean water warms, it holds less oxygen, forcing cilia to beat faster to compensate, but past a critical temperature this frantic motion consumes more oxygen than it delivers, effectively suffocating the coral polyps.
