GoKawiilNebraska's hand-held hot dog cannon 'Der Viener Schlinger' marks 200th game at Memorial Stadium
Der Viener Schlinger, a hand-held launcher that fires Fairbury hot dogs into the stands at University of Nebraska football games, has now been used in its 200th appearance at Memorial Stadium, 30 years after it was created. The device was inspired by a 1996 Monday Night Football broadcast in which the Phillie Phanatic was seen firing food into the crowd, prompting Fairbury's Marc Roode to build his own version. A reporter was given a hands-on demonstration of the launcher by game-day operator Tim Eliker during a North Dakota matchup.
