Microsoft's redesigned Surface Pro and Surface Laptop lineup ships with a mouse and trackpad that use haptic rumble feedback instead of traditional physical clicks. The refreshed devices carry only a handful of new features while priced higher than earlier models.
Apple's iPadOS 27.2 beta introduces a Siri icon that appears when text is selected, mirroring a feature already in macOS 27 Golden Gate. Hovering over the small icon with a connected trackpad expands it into an 'Ask Siri' text box, offering a quicker way to query Siri without leaving the selected text. Without a trackpad, users still get the standard edit menu with a Siri option, but the hover shortcut only works with pointer input.
Laptops with trackpads that bulge or pop out are often showing a symptom of a swollen lithium-ion battery, which sits directly beneath the trackpad in most designs including MacBooks and Surface devices. Battery swelling happens when overcharging or physical damage triggers chemical reactions that release gas, pushing outward against internal components. Apple has previously run replacement programs for MacBooks affected by this exact issue.
Apple's MacBooks support right-clicking, officially called 'secondary click,' through built-in trackpad gestures and the Magic Mouse. This function has been enabled by default for years, unlike earlier versions of macOS which required manual setup in system settings. Users can access contextual menus and other shortcuts without any extra configuration on current devices.
